Middle School

Learning methodologies are a fundamental part of our Pedagogical Model. They move us away from traditional education, because our teaching-learning process is active.

We want students to get involved, interact, and participate rather than just receive information, through methodologies with CAR characteristics:

• Cooperative: Students work together to achieve shared goals, maximizing their own learning and that of their classmates.
• Active: We promote the student's direct participation.
• Reflective: We encourage deeper knowledge, the generation of new ideas, and the development of critical thinking that is visible in the classroom.

Our students' learning is achieved through:

• Project-based learning.
• Problem- and challenge-based learning.
• Experiments.
• Case studies.
• Collaborative centers.

We focus on shaping and nurturing the heart of each of our students. We teach them the joy of living a full life grounded in universal moral values.

We aspire for our students to have a lived-out faith, through a personal encounter with Christ in prayer, the life of grace, and the sacraments.

All of this leads to the well-rounded formation of positive leaders who, through their social skills and assertive communication, transform society.

We want our students to live a joyful faith and to put their values into action for the common good, understanding that it is in our hands to make a positive change.

We want students to use technology effectively and efficiently as a tool to increase their productivity, develop their creativity, communicate ideas, and learn collaboratively, without forgetting the responsibility that its use entails.

Through educational technology, robotics, and the STEAM methodology (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math), we encourage students to see it:

• As a useful and necessary resource for learning.
• As a means to develop digital competencies.

• To lay the technological foundations for the next educational levels.

Middle school students experience English across different spaces and learning opportunities. The academic approach to English at our school is acquired through exposure to the language, so that students can communicate fluently in speech and writing in the second language they are learning, while developing the competencies that today's globalized world demands.

Our students develop professional-level competencies in the 4 language skills:

• Listening: They clearly understand conversations and audio.
• Speaking: They express their ideas in English fluently to hold effective conversations.
• Writing: They write detailed and understandable texts.
• Reading: They understand long and demanding texts.

We educate at every moment, in every space and environment. Every opportunity, inside and outside the classroom, is used to carry out an educational and formative intervention. We have a variety of resources that support us in this process:

• Formative environments and spaces — flexible, interactive, and collaborative — that foster personal, meaningful, and community learning.
• Physical and digital educational materials that help enhance each student's abilities according to the expected graduate profile.
• Educational technology that supports research and the creation of content and solutions.

In middle school, sports become an opportunity to build willpower and character, to use strategy and tactical thinking to achieve victory — always with respect for fair play — improving students' self-image and their social relationships.

In addition, students take part in inter-school tournaments across different disciplines. The Friendship Tournament (Torneo de la Amistad) is the most important sporting event of the Semper Altius School Network and one of the sports activities with the largest number of participants in Latin America.
